Steeldust Loves the Sandwich Fair

Another fall and another fabulous Sandwich Fair!

Saturday, the open pleasure day was beautiful! A bit cold, and it thought about raining, but it was great! Jennifer rode Bonita, Ashley rode Eric, and me (Jenny) rode Starlit. Sammy and Lindsey were our fabulous grooms.

I got Second in pleasure, which was my personal best, and Jennifer got third in trail. Ashley got a bunch of fourths and fifths, and we all got a lot of sixths. There was some good class sizes, and I’d like to think that we had more challenges than others. Jennifer rode WITH HER BROKEN FOOT!!! Ashley is on Eric the giant Nervous Nellie, and I had only ridden once in the past two weeks because of a family emergency. That said, we did really well!
Ashley and I both jumped, and we got 5th and 6th, but again, FUN!

There were some important moments for me personally in this show. If you can see in this pre-parade picture of Starlit, the purple ribbons in her mane, the purple saddle pad and the purple leg wraps. I lost my aunt the week before Sandwich fair to a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Purple is “their color.” Before my first class, fabulous announcer Julie announced the reason for the colors, and after my first class, I did an honorary canter around the ring. It was a little hard to keep it together, but I was very proud to be riding in honor of my aunt.

We had a special presentation for Sportsmanship by Caleb Sweedler. It went to two real go-getters, Arlene and Emma. They come to the fair every year and give it their ALL.

It was a beautiful moment, also because this is Caleb and Errol Flynn’s last pairing at the Sandwich Fair. Errol is now 26 and with Caleb riding western, it is a little too much. It was a beautiful moment, just beautiful.
